Dress Code
The Board of Education desires to keep all schools and their students free from the threats or harmful influence of any groups that advocate drug use, disruptive behavior, or gang affiliation. A dress code committee composed of at least one administrator, one teacher, one parent, one student, and the school resource officer will meet regularly to assess and modify the dress code as needed.

Appropriate school attire is necessary. This means modest attire that is not disruptive to the learning process in the classroom. The education that you receive will undoubtedly influence your adult life. Therefore, inappropriate attire that detracts from your learning or the learning of those around you is unacceptable. Preferred school attire includes "Dockers" type pants and low-heeled shoes.

  • No spaghetti strap tops, tube tops, backless tops, or halter-tops are acceptable. The straps of overalls do not constitute covering the shoulder area.

Other Requirements

Violations of the Dress Code
  1. All school personnel-teachers, administrators, counselors, campus aides, school police have the right to confiscate non-Hoover hats, walkmans, beepers, and cell phones if they are brought to school. These items should be sent to the Assistant Principal's office where they may be released to the student with a valid Hoover I.D. on Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students who refuse to surrender items disallowed will be subject to disciplinary procedures for defiance.
  2. Students whose clothing is in violation of the Dress Code will be placed on the Hoover High School Discipline Step Plan by teachers. Habitual offenders of the Dress Code will be sent to the Counselors/Assistant Principals where their parents will be contacted and requested to bring suitable clothing, or if the parent approves, sent home to change clothing. Students may be detained in the office if they are in violation of the Dress Code. Students who continually violate the Dress Code will be subject to disciplinary procedures for defiance.
