AVID
AVID in San Francisco
Hoover High School has been an AVID site for the last 20 years. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college preparatory program for students who are college-bound and often economically disadvantaged or first-generation college seekers. It enables secondary students to succeed in rigorous curricula, enter mainstream activities in school, and increase their opportunities to enroll in four-year colleges. Students in AVID learn skills such as organization, note-taking, test-taking, collaboration, and public speaking. Students also participate in community service activities and college visitations.  At Hoover, over 90% of our AVID seniors have the option to attend college after graduation, and over 80% of them are accepted to a four-year college or university.
