Hoover Football 2012

Welcome to Hoover Football 2012! We are committed to creating the finest football program in the history of Hoover High School. Winning football games and having a great team are obvious goals. We believe in order to do that we must improve in a number of areas that are not traditionally related to football. Our program is focused on enriching every aspect of our student athletes' lives. We have two main areas of focus or our “Pillars of Success”: who we are and what we do.

Who we are:

Family: It is our objective to create a strong family environment within our program. More importantly we want our student athletes to grow as stronger members of their own family structures at home. We will attempt to accomplish these goals by defining what it means to be a son and brother and what roles they play within the family unit. We believe that this will lead to a stronger sense of team and better teammates.

Faith: Even at a public school we believe in providing opportunities for our student athletes to grow as stronger members of whatever faiths they choose. We will have our players set goals for themselves so they can strive to be members of their prospective religions and help them set up plans on how to achieve these goals. The strength to believe is a valuable trait in team sports.

Community: The community we live in represents a big part of who we are as individuals. We want our players to understand this and to become strong members of our own community. Our players will participate in community service and outreach programs as a team and set goals as to how they can continue this attitude of gratitude on their own and give back to their community outside of football. Belonging to a community makes clear to our players who they represent when they put on the uniform.

What we do:

Education: Our players are student athletes. The student comes before the athlete. One of our main focuses for this season is to make an immediate improvement in the classroom. We will do this by setting clear expectations for classroom behavior. We will also focus strongly on organization and time management. We have a series of talks set for training camp on these topics along with the importance of education later in life when they enter the workforce. It is our goal as a program to get every one of our players to attend college. We will ensure that they are provided with the necessary information on requirements and the application process. If our athletes are not successful in the classroom they will struggle on the field as well.

Health and Fitness: This season we have hired a strength and conditioning coach, Coach Albert, whose sole responsibility will be to focus on this area for student athletes. Coach Albert comes to us from Glendale Adventist Hospital where he works in physical therapy and in their program for athletes. It is our goal to be in the absolute best physical condition we possibly can. We will also give our players the knowledge to continue a healthy lifestyle long after they are done playing sports.

Careers: Right now being a student athlete is the full time career of each of our players. We know this will not always be the case. We have a speaker from the staffing industry set up for training camp who will talk to our players about the work world and its current state. We will provide them with the proper tools to go out and find a job when the time has come and the knowledge as to which industries are hot in the job market and what college majors lead into them.

We look forward to a great 2012 season!!

Sincerely,

Andrew Policky
